Assistant Chef-Instructor
Cornucopia Program


Position Classification: Full-time (37.5 hrs./wk.), hourly, non-exempt
Supervises: Cornucopia Trainees & Volunteers
Location: Derby, VT
Reports to: Cornucopia Program Manager


The Assistant Chef-Instructor is part of Cornucopia’s team. This position requires the capacity to work both autonomously and in close collaboration with the Program Manager and Chef-Instructor. The Assistant Chef-Instructor provides support with all aspects of the Chef-Instructor position and is responsible for trainee instruction and high volume meal production for the Northeast Kingdom Council on Aging Meals-on-Wheels and Congregate Meal Site contract. This position requires an ability to support overall kitchen management, job training activity and program growth, as well as a commitment to leading by example in an instructional setting.  



  • Works under supervision of the Program Manager and in collaboration with the Chef-Instructor

  • Oversees high volume food production

  • Oversees all aspects of trainee instruction

  • Functions as a part of Cornucopia’s team to ensure trainee needs are met and product quality is maintained

  • Models appropriate workplace behavior and supports effective problem solving strategies

  • Creates a work environment that fosters teamwork, personal growth and self-confidence

  • Ensures that all safety and health procedures are followed and practices routine sanitation as on-going part of every work day

  • Promotes and develops an environment of exceptional customer service

  • Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements:


Work is typically performed in a kitchen setting with walking, standing, and heavy lifting required.

  • Willingness to learn new culinary techniques and methods

  • Demonstrated ability to manage and control food costs

  • Ability to create menus using nutritional guidelines established in the Council on Aging contract
